If you hate running, try swimming!
Question:

If you hate running, try swimming!
You can burn calories by swimming too! It doesn't burn as many, but hey, losing calories is losing calories. Plus, if you're like me, swimming doesn't really get boring like running on a treadmill does.

Answer:

most things on a treadmill get boring.. outside running is far better and more enjoyable and at least you arent looking at a clock every 10 seconds
as for swimming, it can burn as many as you want it to...
obviously casual slow swimming just like walking isn't going to do too much, but do some sprints or faster laps and switch up strokes e.t.c and youll def be burning cals.. u can easily do hiit swimming, 2 laps cruise 1 lap super fast.

Answer:

I'm actually thinking of picking up swimming hardcore this semester at school..I've been running for awhile and might need a switch, just wish I could use my Ipod

I seriously have been running for cardio all summer, but back when I used to swim I would be sweating and freakin dying of hunger for hours after I swam.
Swimming - I believe, is the absolute best form of cardio for you, unfortunately it isn't to convenient for many.

Answer:

I've tried that treading water (I sink like a brick) kicks my butt, good work out for my cardio. just suck in too much pool water haha.

Answer:

The really good swimmers can swim all day and barely break a sweat. Of course they can always do sprints.
Personally I'm practicing swimming again and just doing 50 yards kicks my butt. It's like HIIT for me because my technique is so bad I probably waste like 99% of my energy. :D

Answer:

Thry doggie paddeling. It sounds crazy and childish but its tough. The other day I doggie paddled about a mile (not stop) and by the time I crawled out of the water, I was beat. The reason it is such an effective cardio excercise is because it is so inefficient (if that makes sense :) )
Someone said swimming doesn't burn as many calories, but it depends on the type. Breast Stroke burns 130 calories per 10 minutes while running at a slow/moderatly slow (8 min mile) burns about 150. Doggie Paddle is not on the chart but it burns slightly more than the breast stroke. It is probablly similar to running 8 min mile.

http://www.coolnurse.com/calories_burned.htm those charts are based off weight, unfortunately basing it off accurate bf% and age would equate to a better estimation.

Answer:

I find swimming to be more of an anaerobic exercise like sprinting. You're putting almost every muscle in your body into the effort and it's much more tiring if you're not well trained for it. The constant head movement, the equal effort from both your arms and legs, even your feet are forced to move and hold certain positions.
When I'm deployed I use the pool, mostly because I like to tan plus it's a great way to get some relief when it's 110-140 degrees outside. But I work it into my routine the way I would sprints and HIIT. I find swimming to be awesome when you're on a cut because of the distribution of muscle use.

Answer:

in activity using your whole body will burn a lot of calories
personally i hate slow state cardio , its mind numbing
i do like to do
sled dragging
bike sprints
sprints
circuit body weight training
and a few other things like that
during my cutting phase , i think my fat loss was most impressive when i did sprints 4 times a week
i would do 10 100 meter sprints, with a rest between each sprint

Answer:

Yes, short interval high intensity training is a very huge factor in a successful cut. The amount of sugar and fat you burn during high intensity cardio is much greater and you'll burn more calories at rest afterwards.

Answer:

And yes.. swimming rocks!
I 'try' to do it a few times a week - but don't count it as excersise because I'll do some laps and then just relax or paddle around for a while between more laps.

Off topic - but dude. You look like Russell Crowe! I have had a few people tell me that now.
