Question:
who's more at fault? celebrities or judges?
here's my little rant about the crack whore pop stars and movie actresses that are f*cking their lives over, and encouraging young girls to do the same.
i'm not sure what bothers me more: the fact that these young "actresses" and "music artists" (terms used loosely) show no responsiblity as role models, or the fact that the judges appointed to the cases of these girls do not make examples out of them with the harshest possible ruling they can get away with. honestly, i'm not as disgusted with crack whores, doing stupid things when they don't know any better, as i am with mature, educated judges, who, i'm guessing, aren't high and/or drunk at the time of THEIR decisions. these judges have as much responsibility as these young women, if not more, since they are, at least, supposedly coherant during their job.
anyone agree?

anyone agree? Actually im with you. If judges came down alot harder on these celebrities and made an example of them I think youd get alot less people idolizing the sh** out of them.
I don't know. I'd say both. Anyone who abuses power is at fault.
Let me tell you something about the legal system, it is terrible. I have dealt with it only a little bit (for tickets from driving) but I can attest to how terrible of a system it is. The reason these celebrities are let off is because of the lawyers they get. They hire a lawyer who is going to bs his way through a case to prove that his innocent client should not get the full punishment or even close and because of the way they present the case, the celebs are let off. I believe it is the celebs themselves who need to change.

anyone agree? Ehh I disagree
If the judges were harder it wouldnt do anything, theyd still have the same problems. This is why there is a very high repeat offender rate for crimes anywhere in the country.
If people are messed up they are gonna do crap no matter how hard the judges are on them.
it happens all the time. it aint celeb status that gets you off the hook, its money. its just that all the other rich folk who get let off due to their influences arent news worthy, only when its celebs, people start talking.
money = power, whether you'd like to believe it or not
it aint right, but thats life
i think judges and star-struck jury members are to blame. and for "crack whore pop stars", women usually get special treatment regardless of celebrity status. for example, who do you think has a better chance of winning a court case, mike tyson or paris hilton?
Ehh I disagree

If people are messed up they are gonna do crap no matter how hard the judges are on them. I don't think he's saying it would stop them from reoffending, but that it would make a point to onlooking children who have not yet offended, and are learning what the consequences of such out of control behavior will be. They may be less likely to take the same road if they see how miserable it can be, instead of seeing that you can get away with those things.

If people are messed up they are gonna do crap no matter how hard the judges are on them. Agreed. Judges are constrained somewhat by the law as well. It's not as if they can come up with their own punishment. There are guidelines they must follow to avoid judicial abuse of discretion.
I think the celebs are completely at fault. They have made the poor decisions and eventually the legal system will take care of it. It just happens to be that many of these cases are high profile thus under the microscope.
Take for example Paris Hilton, she was treated the same way another person doing the same thing would have been treated. She was released just like any other person.
You guys need to stop watching Law and Order ... the judicial system painted in those shows is completely wrong!
money = power, whether you'd like to believe it or not
it aint right, but thats life Pretty muchs sums it all up right there. That's why OJ got off, he had 6 high-priced lawyers.
I'd say celebrity judges.;)

They may be less likely to take the same road if they see how miserable it can be, instead of seeing that you can get away with those things. exactly. if my problem was with repeat offenders, i would have said so. and then i would have said to shoot drunk drivers. but as you said, it's about the message it's sending girls.
