I tried icing tonight, and could barely walk after lol. Have couple hunderd dollar insoles, but I've been running in basketball shoes, so I'll try buying some light runners.
How long did you take off, and did they come back when you started up again?

Answer:

Short Term: NSAIDS and RICE
Long Term: Raising and Strengthening arch in foot. First you need to make sure you have the proper type of shoe for your foot type. Which is generally flat, normal, or high arch.
THen you need to buy inserts that focus on arch support. Keep increasing the size of the arch support alittle each month until your arch strengthens.
Excercise: Lean weight on toes. Lift
Hope this helps. This is what we do for most patients. If you need better explination just pm me

How long did you take off, and did they come back when you started up again? Probably one of the worst things you could do to your body is long distance (greater than sprints) in basketball shoes. Change this first or suffer a life of foot, ankle, shin, knee , hip and lower back pain.

Sorry what's a NSAIDS, and RICE? My insoles are custom made and have a good arch, but I'll definilty get new shoes.
Thanks for the exersize. It there any stretches for the shin?

Answer:

When I ran track for the first time me and a couple friends of mine got it bad. We just popped some pills and kept running the pain went away after about a month. Shin splints are basically little fractures on your shins so you just have to wait for them to heal.

Answer:

If you havent been running for a while you need to "ease" back into it.
Running on hard surfaces and inclines can make the problem worse. WOrn out shoes can also contribute to the problem.
1) Rest them for a bit, learn to massage them, give them some ice.
2) Get some decent running shoes.
3) Try running on flat surfaces, on grass where possible, then move on when ready

Thanks for the exersize. It there any stretches for the shin? NSAIDS - Non Steriodal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (i.e. Ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc)
R - Rest
I - Ice
C - Compress
E - Elevate
Shin splints are not small fractures. This is a common misconception. They are simply overuse injuries resulting in inflammation of the tibialis anterior muscle.
Often caused by poor shoes, unconditioned athletes, and unexperienced runners taking too long of strides

Answer:

Rest it for a few weeks, then try some reverse calf raises to build up the anterior tibialis.

Answer:

I run on the grass and I don't ever get shock things or anything.

Answer:

do a bunch of calf stretches

I'll do all that. My cardio for the last few years has been just eleptical, so no impact+ shitty shoes. So that definitly makes sense what you're saying.
2 weeks off, and some new shoes should hopefully help.

How long did you take off, and did they come back when you started up again? with me, it was in HS during football and i had no choice but to play through it, it was painful, but i just iced iced and iced and took anti inflam pills, reduces pain and swelling.

No problem, hope it gets better. About 50% of people in the army have suffered from this at some point so I see it alot!
