Question:
Cigarettes causing muscle pain?
I quit smoking about 3 months ago when I started working out. Since then I've been eating healthy, never missed a workout session, etc.
A few weeks ago my friend and went to Vancouver, BC just to get away for a while. I smoked about two packs of cigarettes while I was there. I thought "What the hell, why not?" Life has really sucked lately. I've been working 50 hours a week, busting my butt at the gym with no results, achy joints, stress with my marriage, etc. What are a few cigarettes going to do? Man were they good!
Well, when I got back I managed to control my urges and resist buying anymore. I thought everything was fine until I hit the gym. I lowered my weight about 15% to ease back into my routine so it wouldn't be a shock to my body. Whoa!! My body HURT! I mean, I'm talking I hurt so bad I had to leave the gym after the second workout. I wasn't even able to finish my rows! It took almost five days before I felt better. Every single muscle that had any kind of weight on it hurt badly.
Now I'm wondering if the cigarettes had anything to do with that. The one cigarette I smoked between the time I quit and the trip to B.C. seemed to make me sore too. That's what lead me to believe cigarettes were the culprit.
Anyone heard of anything like that?
well maybe because ur body is new to lifting maybe you overdid something or you have some bad form
IMO its not the cigarettes, but it may come down to ur form and lifting
if all possible try to drop the cigs.. i know life can be stressful, but take it out in the gym if all possible.. ull end up saving urself a shit load of money, and the health benefits from stoppin smoking will really help u down the long road
check your form and make sure ur not trying to overdo it by incorporating other muscles and cheating ur form

Well, I've never been that sore in my life. Not even when I REALLY was using bad form on almost all of my exercises. Not even when I was doing squats for the very first time. Not even when I fell off my parents roof when I was eight. I would rate the pain when I first started as a 2-3 (constant). After I got back from Canada and I got back into it, I'd say it was a 5-6. It wasn't just my back or shoulders... I'm talking every single muscle group that is worked.
It was so bad I had to leave the gym. I haven't been back since.
anyone?
