Question:

athlete trying to burn fat...opinions wanted!
hey everyone,
just joined this forum, although i have been reading and searching for some time now...i have found a plethora of information, but this time i want some real opinions on my situation.
i am an athlete and coach, and play volleyball, basketball, and tennis at least five days a week. i consider myself to be in very good shape, but would like to trim up a little bit without losing any muscle mass.
my metabolisim is very active, and i usually eat five to six times a day. the problem is that when i eat very healthy foods i maintain the same weight and fat % (about 11%), and when i eat junk food and beer i keep the same weight and fat %.
my goal is to drop body fat % to about 9%.
what do you all recommend? the opinions i would value most would be from other athletes such as myself, as a lot of the information i have found pertains to overweight or out of shape people. all suggestions are welcome, including diets, supplements, or workout plans.
thanks in advance!

anyone?

Answer:

It woud be helpful to see your current nutrition regimen and get some details about height, weight, what types and how often you do cardio and resistance training etc. By the fact that you play vollyball and basketball and always seem to stay the same bf% and weight I'm just blatently going to guess that you're an ectomorph. If this is the case you may find it beneficial to try to add muscle mass prior to cutting down to 9% bf. Adding several pounds of muscle will jack up your metabolic rate and make it easier to get over your plateau.

Answer:

... as a lot of the information i have found pertains to overweight or out of shape people. It's the same advice to get lean. Cutting for a competition is when I would say it becomes different. (But even then it's more about timing)

Answer:

i'm sure what you think is healthly is not really it. Try a raw food diet. Read up before you try it, will change your life.

Answer:

It's not easy to lose weight, especially when you're already that fit. That's why I agree with a previous post about trying to add a little muscle mass and then cutting down again. ... Wish I could help more.

Answer:

Have a close look at Matthors "stay eternally ripped & lean" log. He's an athlete who maintains low BF, & aussie so he's friendly as well.

There are no healthy cereals. Cereals, ALL of them, are processed crap. Sure, some are better than others, but it's a worthless food.
