Question:
Shogun vs Griffin UFC76
I think Griffin is not wise for taking this fight...I honestly don't think he stands a chance and is nowhere near the caliber of Shogun...I'm a big fan of Griffin but I think he's going to get demolished...unfortunately.
Thoughts?
I'm sure he's looking at it as a huge opportunity. It's not like people who know who Shogun is will think any less of him if he loses. And no matter what happens, he'll still be incredibly popular among mainstream fans.
If he wins, he flies up the unofficial rankings and into the title picture.
I'm not a bit suprised Griffin accepted the fight. Shogun is the one with everything to lose, not Griffin. If Shogun doesn't stop Griffin and wins a decision, I think it would impress the fans who know who Shogun is, especially if Griffin has moments where he wins some exchanges and such, and makes it fairly close. This kind of win would hurt Shogun more than hurt Griffin in my opinion. A win/win for Griffin. Although, if Shogun completely runs over Griffin (which is entirely possible, maybe even probable), it would knock Griffin even further down the list of LHW's even if it is against somebody like Shogun.
I always like to see Griffin win, but in this one, I find myself just hoping that he survives the first round or two.

He has nothing to lose...although he's a few fights away from becoming Minowa.
even UFC has nothing to lose
there are more good options then bad options
1.) decission, if it goes to decission both men will have taken something of a beating, Shogun I will assume is more skilled then Forrest standing (going out on a limb there his striking looks like mine sometimes lol eyes closed and swinging) so Shogun will get the respect of the American crowd instantly by 'going the distance' with Forrest (same time Forrest gets respect with the more worldly fans who know what's up)
2) Forrest is KO'd, ok UFC gets a new badboy to run with. He dosn't have to do anything at all and he's already on par with 'the evil Tito Oritiz' with all his trash talking just from beating up on the Golden Boy (tho Jardine didn't suffer that fate so I could be way off)
3) Forrests submission gameis (apparnetly) superior to his standup, it is possible that Shogun get submitted
that would probubly be the worst for the UFC of the options tho
Shogun taken out but a TUF dude dosn't help Forrest but does hurt Shogun
still nice feather in the cap tho

Thoughts? People said the same thing about Gonzaga fighting CroCop
UFC 76 "Knockout"
Forshadow?
UFC 77: We Ran Out Of Clever Names A While Ago
Is this the main event? or is the chuck fight?
nvm
UFC 77: We Ran Out Of Clever Names A While Ago lol
They made this fight because the american fans know who griffin is , and not shogun , so the ufc is promoting shogun by throwing griffin to the wolves. Lets face it , griffin has no ko power , or ground finishing ability . He was talking shit about muay thai and now he's about to get him some. He's going to get a big ole taste o knee.

Griffin has got more chest hair, clearly he will win the fight.
People said the same thing about Gonzaga fighting CroCop I actually took Gonzaga in that fight...

I absolutey do not see Griffin submitting Shogun, but sure anything is possible. A KO or TKO is more likely, but Griffin's stand up didn't impress me much in the Hector Ramirez fight...
I think depending on Shoguns performance, Dana would be willing to give him a title shot in his 2nd fight....
In 18 fights, Forrest has KO/TKO only three people. Unless he lands a spectacular strike, I don't see Griffin having the power to KO Shogun. With Griffin's and Shogun's fighting style, I don't see this fight going to the ground either.
I think Griffin can win, by decision, if he can control the pace. He will need to slow the fight down, keep his distance, and use the jab and leg kicks all night. Don't forget who Forrest trains with/under. Randy is a master strategist. Following the strategy will be up to Forrest.
If Shogun is allowed to push the pace and it turns into an all out brawl or clinch fighting, it's Shogun's fight by KO or TKO.
Agreed.
