the herbs made me fail drug test? (serious)
Question:

the herbs made me fail drug test? (serious)
okay you probably read my last thread about me failing my drug test after being in the hospital for kidney stones and they gave me drugs and i failed my drug test for benzodiazpeine and they're firing me at work.
well i did some research and found that certain herbs can cause it to test positive like that, especially Valerian Root.
now what caused the kidnety stones was the fact that i was popping a bunch of herbs like
St. John's Wort
5-htp
clove oil
wtf is in them? i can't find out if there is valerian root in there or what?

Answer:

dude, you need to take a year out and chill. first you were constipated for like 2 weeks, then you were going through depression, now you got fired for failing a drug test and you have kidney stones. you need a vacation.

Answer:

go ask supps forum there is some smart ppl in there!

Answer:

if you tell us what drug metabolite you specifically tested positive for, then maybe we can help you out...

Answer:

benzodiazpeine

Answer:

ahh I wanna know is how the hell do I AVOID getting kidney stones

Answer:

benzodiazpeine wtf? its probably 5-HTP or St. Johns (5-HT being the active chemical if im not mistaken) but i cant see how they are chemically close in structure at all. ill do some research for you and see what i can find.
also, why the hell do they test for benzos? i take benzos all the time, they arent illegal, they are perscription meds (most of them). Xanax, Valium, Rohypnol, Atavan, etc

Answer:

damn, that's weird.
why would you get fired for taking benzodiazepines? they're not illegal.

been getting date raped from the rohypnol? lol uh... are you trying to be funny? thanks for chiming in with your wit and humor 12yr old :)

uh... are you trying to be funny? thanks for chiming in with your wit and humor 12yr old :) I was thinking the exact same thing....
the internetz are matyure

Answer:

well i'm just going to tell them i was taking valerian root and the other stuff and see what they say

Answer:

Or you could just be honest and tell them why you tested positive. Benzodiazepines in the US are prescription medications but are legal and very, very common as we all know. (Valium, xanax, klonipin, restoril, etc). There is no reason to be fired from work for having taken a legal medication prescribed to you by your doctor for a legit medical reason. I am no lawyer but unless there are some very special circumstances to your job it might even be illegal to fire you for it. If you can pony up a legit script for the painkillers and benzos they should be happy and take you back with an apology. (Even if you were abusing the hell out of said pills, the script makes your 'dirty' UA ok.) They can't tell which benzo and which painkiller you were taking they all look the same by the time they are testing the urine.
I would not recommend lying about it. That just makes you look like a, well, liar, and destroys your credibility. Why lie if you really do have a legit excuse? To my knowledge, valerian root does NOT cause a false positive for benzos. There is no chemical similarity. In fact these days those urine tests are pretty damn accurate because of the liability potential inherent in a false positive; they usually err on the side of caution and have more frequent false negatives. Also a positive urine test on which something import depends (like one's income and livelihood) can be challenged and likely confirmed with a blood test, which will be a lot more accurate and could possibly tell them exactly what you took.
Or you can just let the job go it sounds like either A) they are tools or B) there is more to this story then we've been told.
Good luck straightening this out.

Answer:

any medication that's a controlled medication is illegal to have if you don't have a valid prescription for it. So even though benzo's are legal if you don't have a prescription for it they're illegal for you.

Answer:

I just went and read your other thread. I see the dilemma you are in. The drug test was positive for benzos, the hospital is claiming you got no benzos while you were there. Depending on the significance of this job, and whether you really are clean, it may be time to get an attorney involved. I don't know whether I'd take it that far. I'd recommend getting copies of ALL your records from the hospital and look through them yourself to see if you were administered a benzo. Kidney stones are painful and in addition to the painkillers it would not seem unlikely they'd give you a shot of valium or something similar to calm you down. Also like some have mentioned they last a long time; can you say for sure you have not taken any benzos in the last 2 months? Also a legit lab will be able and willing to retest. Hell high quality labs keep old samples around for a certain period of time in case more tests are needed. It doesn't sound like these folks are that responsive. They are likely running a basic positive or negative ELISA test. If it's disputed as it is in this case, they should be willing to run the more expensive and far more accurate tests (like GCMS) that give actual levels of what substance was found. Hell you could offer to pay for it yourself.
Keep doing your research and work; familiarize yourself with the basic concepts of drug testing, pharmaceuticals, and the laws in your state. Like I said if you haven't yet, get copies of your records and go through them with a fine-tooth comb. And keep trying to get to the doctor who supervised your treatment, he may be able to help.
You also might post a link to these threads into Supplements, there are some smart folks in there.
Good luck!
