Question:
chuck vs w. silva...my take
i cant wait to see this fight, but i would have loved to see it about a year ago when both of these fighters were in their prime.
there both still great just, both coming off losses and wouldve been good to see them a year ago
When they fighting bro?
Not sure when it's happening. i havn't read any sources that have a set date.
Anyways, it should be a pretty good match, lets hope wandy goes at him good but like Randy said cuts him off instead of chasing him.
Dana stated after UFC 71 that he would most likely try to do Wandy vs Chuck next. It makes perfect sense considering they are both coming off losses. If they don't get it over with now I'm afraid it will never happen.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell today confirmed a report we passed along in the wake of his loss to Quinton ?Rampage? Jackson at UFC 71 that he will next fight former PRIDE FC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva later this year, according to the Boston Herald.
Here?s a snip from the ?Iceman? on the showdown:
?It?s going to be a striking battle. Who?s going to hit harder and throw more punches. I think from the things I?ve seen (of him) that?s what it will be.?
?The Axe Murderer? is coming off of consecutive ? and punishing ? losses to Mirko ?Cro Cop? Filipovic and Dan Henderson, respectively.
For Silva, the long awaited match up with Liddell is a bit of a risk ? three straight losses and some might think he is finished in mixed martial arts.
However, before that kind of talk even heats up it?s important to remember that Silva moved up a weight class to fight Cro Cop in the 2006 PRIDE FC Heavyweight Grand Prix, and he was hospitalized with a severe illness just days before his loss to Henderson.
Put simply, win or lose the result of this fight will not be career ending ? for both fighters.
No specific date for the Liddell-Silva bout has been announced. Rest assured, if and when the bout agreements are signed we?ll pass that news along right away.
thas what i got
I see Wandy tearing Chuck a new one.
Obviously styles make fights, however I think the Quinton match proved that Chuck doesn't do well against other strikers. Won't be a quick fight, but Wandy will take it.
I hope this is a war and not a quick 1st round KO. I have been waiting for this match for so long!
Is that a number 1 contenders' match or what? I wonder what they're gonna do with the Pride LHW belt? Maybe Henderson vs. Jackson will be some kind of unification fight but I hope not.
Anyone notice, BTW, that Rogan referred to Dan Henderson as the Pride Light Heavyweight and Middleweight champ? Maybe Zuffa remaned Pride's weight classes, or maybe Rogan just screwed up, I dunno.
Ahhh, yes......the dream fight of MMA still has LIFE!
Thank god for Page KTFO'ing chuck yet again, it allows us to finally see Wand and Chuck at the perfect time.
Dana says it should happen, so I don't see why we won't see it. I remember hearing Wandy isn't fighting in 07, so either that's not true, or it's gonna be a while til we see this fight. Maybe for the New Years Show? Who Knows.
Wand's gonna KTFO Chuck in my opinion. They've both showed they can get knocked out with a punch, so you never know what's gonna happen.
Is that a number 1 contenders' match or what? I wonder what they're gonna do with the Pride LHW belt? Maybe Henderson vs. Jackson will be some kind of unification fight but I hope not. Ideally, it should be a #1 contender's match so they make this fight REALLY count.
It looks like they will be unifying the belts with Page vs Hendo. I still don't understand why HEndo is getting the title shot against Rampage when Shogun still hasn't got one, makes no sense what's so ever.
If Page beats Hendo, which belt will he win? Nothing and just hold on to his own? That's not fair.
Anyone notice, BTW, that Rogan referred to Dan Henderson as the Pride Light Heavyweight and Middleweight champ? Maybe Zuffa remaned Pride's weight classes, or maybe Rogan just screwed up, I dunno. Hmmm, good question, didn't catch that, I would have to think it was a mixup, not sure though.
Chuck probably needs some time off too so they will maybe get it on early next year?
I think Hendo gets it first for a few reasons. A.) He's the current Pride 205 champ...so it makes sense from a unification standpoint. B.) While both Hendo and Shogun are equally unknown here in the states, Hendo is American, thus making him a little easier to market to the American crowds. Thats not to say Shogun isn't marketable, just that he will take a bit more time. Give him a couple fights against TUF rejects or whoever and let him build a fanbase the old fashioned way.
Chuck probably needs some time off too so they will maybe get it on early next year? I was thinking late fall early winter... maybe end of this year... but early next year is possible as well

Anyone notice, BTW, that Rogan referred to Dan Henderson as the Pride Light Heavyweight and Middleweight champ? Maybe Zuffa remaned Pride's weight classes, or maybe Rogan just screwed up, I dunno. I think he was probably "translating" the weight classes for the audience in attendance.
I'm hoping this fight takes place early fall...like September or October...although Hendo vs Rampage is rumored to take place in October so I doubt they'd put them both on the same card (even though it would make it one of the greatest events ever). Wandy hasn't fought since Feb. so by the time this fight comes around he will have had about half a year off...should be plenty of time to be rested enough to put on a good show.
do you guys even consider chuck the number one contender still??
i mean, theres some other young fighters who deserve a shot
Wanderlei swings wildly and is open to flash knockouts, Chuck is a heavy handed counterpuncher who knocks people out when they rush him.
My prediction, Silva goes to sleep early.
Not saying it's right or wrong, but Wandy's been dropped a few times that would have been counted as stoppages by UFC refs.
i kinda hope wandy wins, he needs the win for himself especially since most ufc fans have no idea who he is. i tihnk he is a better technical fighter then chuck but prolly not as tough or strong as chuck

having said that i want wandy to win
I think Chuck matches up well against Wanderlei. Chuck is a great counterpuncher who likes to let his opponents push the pace. Wandy likes to rush in early and hard and swing for the fences.
edit: Just saw a couple people posted basically the exact same thing as I did, so this post is kind of pointless. But I'll leave it up for all the members of my fan club.
not as tough? are u stupid? Not as tough...what so hard to believe? I agree with that statement.
Wand didn't get KO'd in 2 minutes and his fights are usually wars.
Anyways...I think the fight is 50/50...pretty much who's the better fighter at fight night...unless someone really gets dominated.
