Chuck vs Shogun.. who wins? Poll
Question:

Chuck vs Shogun.. who wins? Poll
Should this happen if Chuck gets past Rampage this weekend, who do you think would win with Chuck vs Shogun? Also, why do you think that?
I'd pick Chuck simply because I think his punching power and striking are too good and he's too damn hard to take down/keep down.
Although I've seen what Shogun can do so it's a tough call.

Answer:

Shogun! Chucks ego will be owned after rampage owns him and will start to doubt himself.

Answer:

Shogun seems like a much better overall fighter. His stand up is awesome and unlike his teammate Wanderlei, he does know how to throw a straight right.

Answer:

Easily Shogun.

Answer:

shogun

Answer:

please state why you choose who you voted for

Answer:

While Shogun isn't anywhere near as wild as Wanderlei, but he's still wild and looping a lot of the time. Especially since his injury, his standup has not looked quite as solid or aggressive (not to say it's not still very good), and he's resorted to multiple takedowns to win the fight. Chuck would tag him and dizzy him up, then finish him amid a flurry of looping punches. And no way he's getting that trip takedown that everyone in Chutebox does on Liddell.

Answer:

shogun is to powerful of a fighter

Answer:

Shogun, he closes the distance very well and would probably be able to stay in that close range and avoid Chucks punches while delivering some nasty knees.

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking.
Hell, Shogun has to work his way up to a title shot first without getting taken out by someone like Rashad or Tito. I think a guy like Henderson with his chin and his wrestling poses a much greater threat to Chuck.

Answer:

Shogun is an aggressive fighter, like Chuck, has just as good of stand up, and is better in every other aspect of fighting. If someone takes it to Chuck and doesn't just stand back and let Chuck pick them apart, they have a very good chance of beating Chuck. Maybe my mind will be changed if he handles Rampage Saturday, but until then everytime the fighter has taken it to Chuck he has been dominated, Randy and Rampage did this in there first fights against Chuck and each dominated there fights.

Like Babalu did?

Chuck lost the first fight with Rampage plain and simple, regarless of his training choices, but that was 3.5 years ago. The truth is that Chuck had left The Pit & John Hackleman to train elsewhere for his fight with Rampage ( http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/...=3990&zoneid=3 ) After losing that fight, he returned to The Pit and has not lost since.
As for the point of someone else setting the pace to get to Chuck, Vernon White tried, Babalu tried in their 2nd fight, Couture tried in their 2nd fight, and Tito tried in their first fight. ALL resulted in KO or TKO. All of these fights happened after his return to The Pit.
A lot of people won't give credit where credit is due. Chuck has the best takedown defense in MMA and he's the best counter puncher in MMA. When you combine those two with his power, use of striking angles, and calmness under fire, you have a damn good fighter who is hard to beat.

After he wins saturday though that may change.

Answer:

I'd go with Chuck. Shogun is explosive, but I don't think his standup is all it's cracked up to be. He has good Muay Thai knees but his punches and kicks aren't any better technically than Chuck's, and his punches are actually probably worse. He's really good on the ground, but I doubt this fight would go to the ground. I think Chuck would KO him.
They're both fairly sloppy standup fighters, but Chuck is more accurate and his harder. I don't think Shogun could clinch Chuck and expose him with knees like he did Quinton Jackson-- Rampage's clinch defense isn't all that hot anyways.

Answer:

Like Babalu did? Yeah lol. I think if you pursue Chuck intelligently and just throw jabs and stuff early on and "get off first" as they say, then you can do alright, you just can't throw wild hooks or chase him all over the place (like Babalu did)to leave yourself open to his haymakers. I still think Chuck would KO Shogun.

Answer:

MMath doesnt work here. Rampage beats chuck again, but shoguns style (and silvas) dont match well for chuck. shogun isnt that great with take downs. hes doesnt hit hard enough to knock chuck out and chuck has good defense against knees. no stomps or knees on the ground. just a bad match up for shogun.

Answer:

Shogun. He is one of the best fighters who come into the fight with a solid plan on how to win.

Answer:

eh idk... im thinking something like this...
chuck = shogun or chuck > shogun
rampage > chuck
shogun > rampage
they match up differently...

I still say that if Chuck comes with the right gameplan that he can beat Rampage though. It's up in the air.

Sorry, 90% of this section despise Chuck.
After he wins saturday though that may change. I know and understand. Don't get me wrong, I like Rampage too. I think both are good fighters and carry themselves well inside and outside of the ring. I just think Chuck is much better at this point than he was during their first fight. Rampage's southern sense of humor kills me though. I can't wait for Saturday. This should be a war.

Answer:

Chuck!
i dont understand why more people voted for shogun...with out a doubt chuck would win, and even after this saturday more people will realize how much of a better fighter chuck really is....not to mention shogun had alot of trouble with renato "babalu" sobral, and LOST to him....but when chuck fought sobral he completely dominated him...BOTH times he fought him ending with a TKO....overall chuck is a much better fighter...shogun is good too...just not as good...

Answer:

i dont understand why more people voted for shogun... I don't understand why a significant amount of people believe that Chuck is just a kickboxer. He has a purple belt in bjj and it he has stated that he has been working on grappling quite often. He doesn't use it because it's not his top game - makes sense right?
Just wanted to get that through. Oh, and in my opinion, Shogun is the more probable winner. But anything can happen in MMA.
