Question:
want to start kickboxing.
i am 20 and want to start kickboxing. is this too late to start? i know im not gonna be able to compete or anything, just worried about goin there and getting my ass kicked by 10 years old.
my question is really, how long do you have to do it for untill you dont look like a complete beginner?
20 too late to start? Baaa haaa haa .. You aren't even old enough to drink yet. Get in the ring and go kick some ass.
haha cheers for that, but i live in uk, u can drink at 18.....
but thats cool then, ill give this kickboxing a try then....
Get in there and find out. If you're getting beat up by ten year olds (which is highly unlikely) learn from it.
im about 6'4 - 90kg. wat kinda build is good for kickboxing?
im about 6'4 - 90kg. wat kinda build is good for kickboxing? dude no offense but you worry to much. There is no perfect build for kickboxing. You will find guys like Mark Hunt who look out of shape that are great at it. And you will also find guys like Michael Mcdonald who look like they were carved from stone who are good at it.
Kickboxing is about technique. Your build will not matter very much if you have the skillz.

my question is really, how long do you have to do it for untill you dont look like a complete beginner? dude, im 27 and i started last year.. its not too late.. but trying to make it to big shows may not be somthing that couldh appen.. Just learning and training is the fun part. never 2 late.. hell there is a 39 year old dude there.. he kicks ass.

Kickboxing is about technique. Your build will not matter very much if you have the skillz. What he said. Look at Fedor. That guy doesn't exactly look good, but he's the best fighter in the world. I started at 19 with a really shitty place. Now I'm with a great school. I know how you feel. You feel like you're never going to be as good as anyone else. I just had a huge discussion about that with my sensei tonight. He said that your perspective on things can change everything. If you limit yourself in your mind, you limit yourself everywhere else. If you say, "Just because I got a late start doesn't mean shit", then it doesn't.
Sure there are people who have years of experience on you, but use that as motivation. It kills me to see guys like Nick Diaz who already had something like 11 MMA fights under his belt by the time he was our age, and Karo Parisyan who's been fighting grown men since he was 16 (I know neither example I gave was a kickboxer, but you get what I mean). While chances are, no, we'll never be as good at fighting as these guys, we can't give up like pussies. I personally use it to drive me. I never did wrestling and I didn't really start training until I was 20 years old. Rather than say, "Oh, poor me", I started training my balls off. I do kickboxing, jujutsu, combat judo and when I get the money, I'll be doing some private lessons in boxing as well. When I have free time, I get down to the kickboxing gym to train, I hit the bag at home, my girlfriend and I hold pads for one another or we spar using light contact. If I'm watching tv, I'll shadow box while I watch or I stretch or something. Just bust your ass to get where you need to go. It's hard work, but it's worth it.
I'm 19 and i've started recently, I got used to things quite quickly aswell. I've had a break because of a knee problem, but i plan to go back soon. I think what you'll find is there are people there of all ages and abilities, and if it's anything like the one I go to, the people will welcome you and respect you no matter what age.
20 is still young man, imagine how good you could be with 5 years of dedication, then you'll be 25, have a good body and seriously know how to handle yourself. And it won't be long before you get over those first nerves either, so go do it.

my question is really, how long do you have to do it for untill you dont look like a complete beginner? well to answer your first question . No you are not to old and 20 is a good age to begin. Secondly its not how long you have to do it it's how fast you can learn and apply your skills. Looking good on a bag and sparring is 2 differnt things
I started properly when I just turned 19, I've been doing it almost nearly a year now and it's a great age to start.
You're testosterone is flowing, you're young and can easily adapt etc etc.
