Question:
here we are in the States, and the entire country is having a freak cold spell. My daughter who lives in Texas had snow and ice. The University in Texas where my hubby went is actually closed until further notice because of an ice storm. Texas usually only gets down to 50 degrees in the winter. Malibu, California which is on the Pacific coast and never gets very cold had snow. The citrus crop in California is fairly ruined. The east coast of the United States is under an ice and snow grip. Here we sit with our weather, and then I see on the news about all the awful fires and drought in Australia. It amazes me at the extremes we are having. I now find myself always checking out the news and weather in Australia. Hope you are all fine with the fires. Even my hubby asks about my friends in Australia. I heard him tell a friend about how I hear from friends in Australia. Just can't tell you how much AFW means to me.
On a different note, yesterday Tuesday was the second anniversary of my Dad's death. Sad, but I read messages I got from AFW two weekd ago when it was the anniversary of my Mom's death. The messages served as a comfort to me again. Lots of love to you all!
Donna, It is scary all the bush fires we are having here at the moment. They are not near me but they have been close to some family members. It mustn't be much fun for you there either with all that snow, ice and cold weather.
Also I think AFW means a lot to all of us on here and we are so lucky to be able to form such great friendships with people from all around the world.
And I'm glade that you were able to read past posts from AFW for comfort that is something we all need at some time in our lives.
So s to you Donna.
Im not near the fires now .i know how these people feel. Five years ago, when dyl was just 2 weeks old we were running from my mums place where the fire was a major threat to marks parents where there was no fire threat but we couldnt breathe due to smoke , even with windows and doors closed and damp towels around sills and at bottoms of doors you vould still smell it very strongly.
It was the scariest thing in my life .especially when a lovely fire fighter comes especially to you as he knows you have a tiny baby to tell you so sympathitically he has no idea whats going to happen and a decsion should me made immediatly .GO or STAY.
It is absoultly heart breaking to see whats happening here.
Thankyou (and your hubby) for your thoughts for us here in Australia. But us aussie are fighters and we will keep surviving .Right aussie girls?
As for AFW .well yes it is a special place .i was giving birth and all i could think about was this place!!
Mimi.the cold has moved on out of here. Our negative temperatures have warmed up considerably so feel comfort that the warm we are having must be moving east here shortly.
The weather has been insane here this winter from ridiculously warm temperatures that have the tulips budding in January to Texas having ice storms. What?1!!
Now that's dedication Manda.or is it just this awful addiction.
As for our weather.usually February is the really hot time of the year. If we are regularly hitting 38 plus Celcius (101 plus farenheit)now, what will it be like then.
Donna i have been watching the weather over there too. Keep praying that everyone is ok and safe. I have distant family (mums brother) down in the fire area, somewhere. The ones before christmas went right to their backyard, I don't know what is happening now. Mum sometimes tell us about the fires she went through as a kid, and I have seen a few myself and almost been evactuated once, I was pregnant with Sally at the time.
The weather has been awful for all.
thankyou for thinking of us all Donna i always dread summer because of the fires so much devastation for people the poor animals have no hope .
Manda i remember about 8 yrs ago on Bribie Island there were fires all around it i was terrified the fires were so close to the homes that we could hear the fire fighters talking the poor kangaroo's were hoping all over the roads oh it was awfull. all i could think of was the fact that there is only 1 bridge onto that place no good me going to the water there because i can't swim
now that they have built all the homes mansions there they really need to get another access on off the Island
I guess they figure because much of the land is protected that they cant re-develope they dont need another access.
