Woman jailed for starving baby to death
Question:

A MOTHER of seven was today jailed for more than ten years for starving to death her seven-week-old son.

Answer:

she had ignored repeated warnings to seek medical help for the child, failed to give him adequate food and deliberately rejected offers of support.
So once again the authorities are covering up their arses and blaming a woman who had had a history of neglecting her children.
Sorry.that woman needs help, not jail time.
That little mite would be alive today if DOCS had done their job.

Answer:

Honestly am at a loss as too what to say. Could bitch and moan about the mother or could bitch an moan about the government, nobody listens anyway. What do you do?

Answer:

That poor little boy suffered so much in his short life.

Answer:

Once again we are confronted by the shocking realities that government departments don't work, family support has gone out the window and children are dying in the luckiest country in the world.
No other time in history have the poor been so well off because of government help (family tax benefit, care care benefit and bonuses, $4000 baby bonuses,$600 a year child grants etc) and yet women are still crying poor and this poor little child is the ultimate victim. And what of the fate of the other children, probably torn apart and sent all over the state to different foster families, more than likely not to see there siblings again untill adult hood.
I am sooooo angry at the moment, not just at this woman, but at the whole bloody system, that just seems to go on and on and on letting children down again and again. Again there will probably be a multi million dollar investigation and inquest into this childs death and the same old excuses will be trotted out (lack of funding, she slipped through the cracks, not enough docs workers etc etc) and instead of doing something about it, they will all slap them selves on the back saying that we've fixed the problem untill the next child dies and then it will all start again.
It's about time a politician stood up and said enough is enough, I don't care how much it costs, not one more child will die in Australia because of neglect, abuse or sheer bloody stupidity. Poor the money into fixing the problem and stop whinging about how much it costs and stop blaming the victims and start empowering more women to say NO MORE, no more deaths of children, no more inadequate childcare for working mums, no more will women be used as the whipping posts of politicans who can't or won't fix the problem, and no more will women be totally dependant on men to support, financially, emotionally and physically because of low self esteem and the fact that men can and do just up and walk away when times get to tough and leave there responsiblities of parenthood to under resoursed and usually severely stressed women.
God I could just go on and on. I am just sooo angry about it all at the moment.
Will go and have a smoke, say a prayer for the poor little mite and calm down.
Cheers
Debby

Answer:

Debby, the system is really frustrating. Earlier this year I had a problem with a neighbour who used to be a friend, she got DOCS onto us for no other reason than vindictiveness, they were at my front door the next day. In our community I have a great reputation with kids, I have spent the last 10 years helping out on committees and working with the kids at playgroup, preschool, school and sport, I have started a playgroup and arranged funding for different things to benefit not just my own children but all the children in my community.
yet DOCS representatives say they are understaffed and can't get out to see whats happening in some families even after numerous phone calls from concerned family, friends, neighbours etc.

Answer:

Good on you Deb, I completely agree with everything you said. That woman is a pathetic excuse for a human being and I think the judge was way too lenient on her to be honest.
She should be forced to be steralised while in prison, no more kids for her - ever!!! Who the HELL has 7 kids these days? Who the hell can afford it. lol, sheesh.
I guess you really do have to be on welfare these days to make a quid, sad, sad, sad.

Answer:

Breaks my heart to read this. I just cant understand why things are getting worse instead of better. There is soooooooo many children coming into care that they are running out of carers to take them. I hope this woman rots in hell.sorry but if she was offered help and didnt take it what sort of human being is she. Veryyyyyyy sad.

Answer:

The thing that really hit me hard about this story is the weight he was when he died. At 7 weeks old he weighed 2.4 kg, I am 34 weeks pregnant and at my last scan that is the weight they said my little man is. It is so sad and as a mother I just can not understand how anyone can sit back and watch their child slowly and painfully suffer and ultimately die. It is just shocking and I am not saying anymore now because in my pregnant state it just upsets me!

Answer:

OMG! What a tragic story. i'm at a loss for words. that poor baby.
