Question:
Hi is there a preferred kitty litter for kittens we have had this kitten for a week and she was really good using the kitty litter tray my daughter has for her in her bedroom.
The last two nights she has not used it and peed on the daughters bed (YUK) the daughter said she made sure the litter tray was clean before she went to bed?
We havent changed brands of litter or anything why would she all of a sudden not be using it? She sleeps on the bed with the daughter?
Thanks Jen!
My sister's cat (a Himalayan Persian) is a bit funny like that as well. Unless the litter tray is meticulously clean, she will pee on the sofa. When I used to live with my sister she would pee on my bed. She will not use the litter tray if another cat has used it either. Fortunately we have seemed to solve this problem by using two different litter substrate. Max (her other cat) prefers the clumping clay type litter whereas Smokey prefers the long life crystals and they keep to their own litter trays. When she was using the same type of litter for both trays, Max would use either and then Smokey would pee on the sofa.
The only suggestion I have is that maybe Bundy has taken a wee in the kitten's tray and the little kitty has taken offence to it and won't use it.
Yes.my thoughts too. You also have to rid the bed of any trace of odour (even if you can't smell it, they will).don't envy you there.
Biozet detergent is recommended for getting rid of the cat pee smell to stop them going back and peeing in the same spot.
We use recycled paper litter, haven't ever had any problems with inappropriate urination. (Have heard the clumping litter isn't good for kittens re risk of them inhaling it, and then it clumping internally - but don't know how accurate that is?)
Is it possible it was just a hang-over effect from when the kitten was unwell?
My daughter is going to pet shop to have a chat to them about the litter.
She has scrubbed the tray just in case Bundy did anything ( I dont think he has he is really keeping his distance at the moment!)
It seems weird she is only doing it at night she seems ok using the litter through the day?
Thanks Jen

I was just wondering if your kitten maybe is feeling some anxiety, what being the new kitten. I had a young male cat that started doing that too and my girlfriend told me about a spray called feliaway. You spray it where the cat is peeing and just to settle the cat down and feel at home spray around on the door frames about the same hight as the cat. You other cat will feel at eaze too, as it maybe have it's nose out because of the new cat.
I hope this is helpful for you.

I use crystal clear (from snappy tom) in the litter tray as it never leaves a smell and the urine evaporates, and as she is the only one using it we change it every 3 to 4 weeks.

Oh buggar look what I did, I now have made 2 of these.
Sehyang.is it hormonal?
I had that problem with one of our older cats. Ours are inside-outside so they do their duties outside, but one of them started tinkling in the bathroom all of the sudden. When I went to clean it up one time I noticed it was a little pink, it hadn't been before when he first started doing it. I took him to the vet and he had a urinary infection. It was as if he was trying to tell me something was wrong.

I have heard that before but when I asked the vet about it, he said it was a bit of an old wive's tale and there was no evidence to prove that it did do that. Max has been using it for about five years and he has had no problem at all.
We are using the crstal kitty litter so far so good. Does it hurt if they eat it? She seems to pick up a little bit and have a munch on it every now and then?
Thanks Jen
