Question:
Does anyone in here have cocker spaniels? If so I was wondering if you have had any of the issues I've had and if you have any suggestions. The first one is that underneath a cocker spaniel's ear is the hottest part of their body. Therefore, my dog scratches under there and he has rubbed a raw spot under there before. I took him to the vet and got him some antibiotic stuff to put on it. Well, he seems to have done it again! I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if you had any home remedies to prevent it or things to put on it other than taking him to the vet to get more meds?
Also, I think he has dry skin. He scratches often but he has no fleas. He's an inside dog, gets a bath every other week or at least once a month, and is on heart worm and flea preventative. I've looked over him pretty thoroughly too and haven't seen any fleas either. So the only other assumption I've come to is that his skin is dry. Any ideas on what to do about that? Thanks so much for your help!
Our Cocker.Millie.constantly self grooms.nipping and fleaing herself over and over even though there are no fleas .I think this is more of habit than anything.
Ears.now it is very common for them to have ear problems. It is due to the shape and size of the ears and the fact that very little air gets into the ear to dry things out. Millie has never had a problem on the outside of the ear (more recurring infected ears) but I have found tying the ears up to allow the air to flow through does assist in healing. A child's head band is great to help with keeping the ears up
Hope this helps some
Oh and we would love to see a pic of your doggie
Here's some pictures Patricia! This is a picture of my spoiled rotten mess with his Halloween Bandana.
Here's another one of him and his favorite toy.this ugly green alien thing! haha
(I hope I uploaded these right.it's my first time!!)
Aww Texas.he is so cute.what's his name?
His name is Freddy. He will be 3 in July! What color is your cocker? How old is she/he?
My Millie is on the right of this picture.
She is a blue roan.she was rescued from the pound but we think she is about 7 or 8.and she thinks she is a 'real princess'.
Oh My God Freddy is absolutaly bloody Beautifull.
i have a 'Cavalier King Charles Spaniel' her name is Duchess , she also has very dry skin now but she is 13 years old now her hair is'nt growing properly either now with her illnesses but since she was 5 weeks old everytime i bathed her i would use doggy ear drops then wipe them out with a cotton ball she has never had ear problems i think thats why ( she has always had lots of other probs though LOL )
i can't help with any home remedys though because i am a pannicker i always take her to the vet she was bitten by a bee at 7 weeks old we had her to the vet 3 times in that day just to be sure she was okay. i will post a pic of my old darling i took this pic a week or two ago when she was yelling at me going mad because i would'nt give her a biscuit
Freddy is beautiful, what lovely photos thanks for sharing, keep them coming
If I didn't love my Rosie (Kelpie X) so much and think she is the most beautiful four footed darling, I would say that Freddy was gorgeous

Yea, that's the reason I asked for home remedies is because I'm a panicker too! haha I was going to take him to the vet again for this too and then I decided to try y'all first. My vet told me last time the sore was normal and not to worry about it, just make sure it gets medicated, but I don't want anything to happen to him!! Oh and yours going mad for a biscuit, mine will go nuts and jump up and start dancing (jumping on back feet and turning in circles) when we get out his treats! I'll have to pull that picture off the camera for y'all!
And thanks everyone for all the comments. He is quite adorable isn't he?! Spoiled too!
