Christmas meal help
Question:

I need some help girls, for one I cant cook but I want to have a nice feast for xmas day, probably for lunch and dinner. Im getting a ham and a chicken but I dont know what else to serve It will probably just be me and the kids but my mum is thinking about coming over too, as long as she doesnt run into dad So what else should I have? Also things to nibble on during the day too? Should I get heaps of chips etc or will the boys just fill up on them and not eat a decent lunch and dinner I want to make xmas special, we've had a crap year so I want to be all fun and laughter for them plus good food

Answer:

Well good for you.You are doing this for youself and not just for everyone else.
By all means have a few packets of chips but only open one at a time when your visitors arrive.
A dip (commercial is fine.and no one will know if it is not served in the container) with crudites or non salty/flavoured wafers (believe it or not Homebrand are just perfect).
For Lunch/Dinner.just go for your Ham and Chicken with salad (Lettuce, Tomato, Beetroot and some real pineapple (to make it special, if you have Xmas cookie cutters make star shapes from the Pineapple).
Dessert could be a fruit cake/ plum pudding (again Homebrand, but go for the dark) broken up and mixed well with softened Ice Cream (spluge here amd go for the better brands as they do not ice up). Refreeze in small bowls lined with gladwrap. To serve, just warm bowls in hot water, invert onto plates or dessert bowl and drizzle with a Toffee flavoured sauce.
To make the table extra special, tape tinsel around the serving dishes or each plate ( only limited by your imagination), get the boys to cut out snowflakes and staple them to the tablecloth, any decorations (a few baubles) scattered around the table.just go for it girl.
This week start talking to your neighbours and invite them over for Xmas morning for drinks.don't tell them it will just be a punch.you never know if someone will stay on for lunch because they have no one to share the day with and any problems with relatives might be kept at bay with a new face in the room.
Above all, do not stress out.do not break the bank with goodies that may not be eaten .AND HAVE A BLOODY BALL.

Answer:

Fruit platters, good in the heat, yummy and not too bad if the boys snack on them. Chips are ok, but I would over-do it, you'll have so much food for lunch and dinner anyway. Maybe some cheese or dips and crackers.
If you're having the chicken roasted/hot, you can do roasted veges too, otherwise some salads (potato, pasta, garden . whatever you want).
We usually have lunch as the main meal, then dinner is leftovers and maybe pasta or something. After a full lunch no-one ever feels like eating much for dinner anyway.
Dessert - we always have plum pudding and custard (and ice cream is usually on offer too). The plum pudding is usually bought, can't remember the last time someone made one here We also have another dessert for people who don't like plum pudding or whatever - usually just little christmas tarts or other cake-y things (then you can use whatever is left after dinner as well).
I hope you have a great time. Even if we just spend time with family, it's still nice to relax and enjoy good food

Answer:

Hope you have a nice Xmas Angie, and what are you talking about , you can so cook , we have seen your meals in the pics If it is just you and the boys, do what they like why go to the added expense of all the traditional food if the boys don't like it, It will be to upsetting seeing all go to waste, MY youngest daughter hates Xmas food, so I always give her pizza hut , just make fun food for little ones, and don't worry to much if they have junk food on this day, tomorrow will be back to normal, I love filling the Xmas stocking with all that rubbish, chocolates, lollies, fizz, cherries, how come no one has Pavalova :head, do the boys like mud cake

Answer:

oh yeah we love mudcake but we've just had one
Im thinking I might do salads and fruit, a few bags of chips etc but will limit what they have of them Not sure what Ill do for dessert, I dont like pudding or xmas cake, might get a cheesecake or something, jeez I might even give the kids cordial Ill get bread rolls too, mmmm I cant wait just thinking about it, better start my shopping list LOL

Answer:

Old Di, i was thinking of a WEE pavlova you can buy in a box there are about 6 in a box like mini pavs each little one is like a one serve you could fill them with fresh fruit a spoon of cream,
i was thinking same as the other girls, salad or baked veg, wish i was there to help you Angie what about as party food to those ice cream cones that have the sherbet marshmellow on top with sprinkles
my mother always hated it when we would all sit down to her beautifull christmas dinners my DH would butter bread put asparagus on them , it really pissed her off but thats what he liked
