Answer:

Im a mum of 3 boys, and what I did with my oldest 2 was to let them run around with no pants on when we were at home. It only took a day or two and then they wanted to run and use the toilet or even go out the back yard! Getting a sticker chart up to reward everytime they go in the toilet is something they love. I also heard putting a pingpong ball in the bowl to help with aiming!.but I havent tried that one. Do you have a potty, or are you just going to teach them in the toilet straight away? Just wondering so I can give you more potty based ideas if needed. Good luck!!

Answer:

I used the ping pong ball for my son.it worked (draw a smiley face on it if necessary).
I started him on the potty, but he wanted to do it like Dad, so steps that set him at the right height are a must.
Rewards are a good idea too.
If you are planning to send him to Preschool, and he wants to go, gentle reminders that he needs to be out of nappies can help.

Answer:

Okay, I was a single mum with my eldest, and there was noone to show him how to wee in the toilet, so I grabbed a banana and stood there just so he could see what he was suppossed to do. That seemed to help a bit!! I still laugh about it!
I used to put them on the potty aswell, and Id sit next to them and start making grunting noises. Theyd copy, and as they grunted wee came out, just so they got used to the idea of pushing it out. Then Id praise them and they were as proud as punch.
Ive got a potty that has a tray so they can sit and colourin or whatever, which is great for them to get used to sitting there, they dont even think about it, and mmost of the time when you lift them out of it, theyve done something.
Hope this helps!!! Let me know how you go, k.

Answer:

Does he watch his Dad go? Maybe he just needs to see how it all goes together to work it out?
(That said, my 2.5 year old is so not interested in TT . he knows ALL about it, can tell me about it etc but refuses to use the potty or toilet, won't even look at the cool Wiggles and Bob undies I bought for him. I'm weeks away from having another baby so I am just not bothering with it right now, will probably get serious about it next summer so he is ready for pre-school in the new year).

Answer:

thank you all. this is the only place i found that i can get real advice on the topic. will let you all know when we finally get it sorted. fingers crossed

Hi ezmay, I'm the one that sent you the off line message I hope it was helpful. Take care I hope he gets it soon for you, as I know that changing nappies can be a little smelly at times.

DD trained herself before DS was born and went straight back to nappies after his birth - 2 1/2 years between them - so I wouldn't worry too much Naomi. A couple of months later and she was retrained day and night.
As for DS, I put my foot down right before he turned 3. We spent a week at the beach so I only took a nappy for each night and showed him. He had been almost trained just after 2, then I went back to work and the carer didn't think he was old enough (long story). So, the situation was different.
Everyone seems to have given you the advice I would have offered. Lots of rewards, another male to show him how, and maybe he just isn't ready just yet. If he has worked it out in his head, you're meant to give him some more time.

Answer:

Is he in daycare? My little darling girl(not) refused to have anything to do with it. One week in daycare (1 day a week) and she was starting to use the toilet. By the 4th week she was out of nappies completely during the day. She was 3 1/2 at that time.
