Question:
Sehyang, you need a PVR and then you'll never miss anything again.
Heather are you still at the school? Or have you given that away now you are studying at TAFE?
Stormy.I have given notice to all bar the local High School.I will be their relief so that means I will have time for the housework, studying and voluntary work at a Rehab centre (which I have to do as part of the TAFE course.I'm not being noble here).and they will always have a staff member to call on.
The new PPS laws come into effect in July so I will need to work a min. 15 hours per week.but I am exempt for 6 hours because of TAFE.
I actually worked 4 hours today.they rang at 10.15 wanting me straight away.and I am there Thursday and Friday all day.might not get any more work for a month or two.
I was wondering how you were fitting it all in because I thought you were still working as a TA every day. Hope all goes well with your course!
It's on tonight.I look forward to every Thursday because I also watch Bones!

Stormy Weather, I have no idea what a PVR is. I know that in one of your replys you said that it tapes lost automatically. I have no idea of these new gismos they really confuse me. I even had my nephew show me how to put things on tape from my video camera, I had to write it down so I wouldn't forget how to do it for the next time I had to do it.

Heather Ann, how did you become a teachers aide as I would really love to do it. I have a lot of patience with kids, I use to help out in class at one of my kids schools when we lived in Sydney. I would sit with him all the morning helping him as he had trouble catching up with the other kids, I did that for 6 months now he is doing great.
Sehyang, think of it as a digital VCR. Instead of recording the show onto a tape or a DVD, it records it onto a hard drive, just like in the PC.
is what ours looks like but we have a bigger capacity in ours so we can record more than 60hrs.

Thanks Stormy Weather, I'll look into maybe getting one depending on the price.

I started just as you did.as a parent volunteer at my son's school and just went on from there. I have been a TAS for over 10 years now. I completed a Teachers Aide (Special) Certificate 111 at TAFE 3 years ago which gave me qualifications but believe me they don't count for anything. You will only be offered jobs if the school has Education Department funding for specific children.altho' sometimes Private Schools can afford to have an Aide irrespective of the reason.
Check out OTEN (online TAFE) if you are unable to attend a campus .I think you live in a rural area don't you?
I just realised, from a previous post, that you thought I had a daughter with a disability.almost correct.I have a teenage son instead
I was referring to the boy and girl I work with (my delights as I call them) at the local High School.they both are high needs (physical) children with two full time TAS and one TAS extra for 4 hours each day, to accomodate the delights personal care and staff break times.
Irrespective of which field (physical or behavoural/learning) you would consider.it is so rewarding.I am really doing the job for the satisfaction I receive.

Heather Ann, Yes I do live in a rural area, I think I need to speak to the school as they have known me ever since 1990 when my first child started there. Thanks for letting me know, now I can try do something about it. I'll let you know what happens after I speak to the school.
Does that mean that you have a son with a disability or that he is the disability, I have a warped sence of humor.
He is the Disability.he is not really that bad. I had problems with him in the past, but he has worked hard to improve. his behaviour, if not his schoolwork.and is almost likeable at the moment.
