Question:
What do/did you use?
Pros? Cons?
I didn't know they still made capsules goes to show how much I pay attention. I think the 0-4 are most popular these days.
I was at home when my brother and sister were babies, and I just never liked the capsules, they seemed like a pain in the arse, and they didn't look all that comfy in them LOL
We used the 0-4 for all 3 and found them to be great, easy to move between cars and more economical 'cause you can use it for so long.
I'd be interested tho, to know if there was any statistic on carseats V capsules
I used both.
With Tyler, we bought one of those reversable car seats that you can use from new born (goes in backwards) and when he was old enough, you just turn it around and use it as a seat. It was great BUT it was a pain if they were asleep as you always managed to wake them up getting them in and out of the car. The only reason we didn't get a capsule was because we knew we would end up having to buy another seat and they really convinced us to get the one we bought because it worked both ways.
When we had Scott though, Tyler was still using the car seat so we hired a capsule for 6 months. The best thing about the capsule was that if Scott was sleeping, we could easily pull the capsule out of the car. The capsule that we hired as well was the one with the buckle in it - not the velcro.
I suppose it all depends on what suits you really, the capsule was really handy for the second one as you seem to have more free hands IYKWIM.
We have a convertible carseat for Hugo - he is still using it, although we have a spare forward-facing carseat too in DHs car so theoretically we could just put the baby in the convertible and Hugo in the upright . but the thought of swapping them both back and forth when we change cars is not appealing. I thought if we hired a capsule and a spare base, we could put one in each car, as well as a carseat each and wouldn't need to swap and change for the first six months . and after that Hugo will probably be ready for a booster seat anyway.
Oh well . we've got ages to decide. Just thinking about possibilities at the moment.
I used a capsule for my boy, we got it for free from Qld Ambulance. They loan them out for 6mths and they even fit them properly for you before bub is born so you have it all set up and ready. Saved me buying one and gave me time to save up for a reversible seat once he'd grown a bit.
I didnt have any with Gav, we walked everywhere but with Ty I got a reversable car seat. Its pretty cool, even thugh its not one of those fancy ones, I knew we wouldnt use it all the time so I got a second hand one off my neighbour, its still in great condition. ANd its quite easy to move from car to car although I guess Ive had tons of practise LOL
I used the capsule with my first for about a month till I got hold of a reversible seat. I like the seats but the capsule is convenient when they are asleep(getting them out)
first son I bought a 2nd hand capsule, and he always looked so uncomfy in it.
2nd son, I got a brandnew capsule, but it was a different brand and didnt go inside another unit thingy to clip it in, just a seatbelt and the anchor bolt strap, it looked so much more comfy than the caspule I had for DS1. I was just going to use a reversable seat, but was told that the hospital wouldnt let you take bubs home without a capsule. this one I had was great, coz when I went out I left him to sleep in it, and it also rocked a bit too. 3rd son used the capsule thingo for about 1 week. then, a reversable carseat.
the twins. straight into reversable carseats, so did DD
the pain with the reversable caseats is it can be hard to put baby in and out if you leave the tether strap thing hooked up all the time, and taking them out carefully when asleep isnt too fun either. But its only for a short while anyway. We never went out too much after bubs#3 With the twins I think it would have been better with capsules, but moneywise, is rather expensive buying two capsules then two carseats later (I wasnt too fond of hiring. THere are just somethings I like new, for saftey reasons.)
What is a capsule?
Anyone have a picture of one?
Like this Gina .
They have a base that bolt into the car, and the 'capsule' bit (the part the baby goes in) clicks in and out.
