Question:
Should I eat before workout
Hello all I'm new at these forums but Ive got a question?
My workout is a split.
Monday - chest
Tuesday - shoulders and traps
Wednesday - legs and calves
Thursday - back
Friday - bi and tris
Now Im in the gym at 6am everyday and the question is should I eat before I start my workout or after? which I do at this time. I usually have a protein shake and my vitium before I go to the gym. Now is that enough or should I eat a good breakfast before. what would you all suggest? Thanks for your help.
Heck yeah eat. Have your breakfast and suppliments before the workout to keep energy levels high then protien shake after to spike blood sugar and feed muscles directly. Eat solid food again in about an hour as your blood sugar drops.

Eat!
question is should I eat before I start my workout or after? which I do at this time. Thanks for your help. I eat before and after training! EAT!!! ed
I eat before and after training! EAT!!! ed Agree 100%...........Actually your breakfast and PWO meal should contain the lions share of your total carbs, along with protein, keeping your fats to a minimum at this time. Without food (carbs) your body will convert protein to glucose and your cortisol levels will be high, not what you want for a workout. IMO, or at anytime really.
I would eat too but not right before. I eat 1.5-2 hours before.
^^^ What he said.
I would/could never eat right before a workout. I'd most likely vomit during the middle of it. lol
About 30 minutes before my workouts I take 2 big Fish Oil tabs, and a 48G Protein shake. I only drink water to keep my mouth from being dry during workouts.
I eat 6 scrambled eggwhites right after my workouts.
If I were to eat before workouts... I'd puke my guts out during the workouts.
This is one of those things, which is different for people. IMO
I never eat before legs - anything else yes
before and after.
Oatmeal, fruit and scrambled egg beaters with one egg mixed in...every morning before workout or not...Biggest meal of the day for me and I love it!
Good day all....
I eat lunch about 12:30 every day and my workout starts about 3pm.
1/2 hour before my workout I eat a banana and chug some Concord grape juice and maybe a 1/2 cup (max) of coffee as I'm getting ready to hit it....with plenty of water bottles in the garage fridge.
Interesting points here.
Thanks....
definately eat
eat a good hour or hour and a half before, otherwise you will burn muscle.
LR3.....
Well, that .02 works for me and a couple of other posters concur.
I'll change that habit...losing muscle is NOT why I enter my 'pain domain' every day!
Have a great day all.
I have a peice of fruit and and a cold chicken breast before I lift. After I have a weight gainer while I cook my eggs steak and taters. Of course my mouring lifts are at the end of my day( work night shift), so I've been eating every 2 hours for about 12 hours already.
on lifting days I get up at 4am and eat an 800 calorie breakfast, then go back to bed by 0430 and snooze until it's time to get up and go to the gym for 0600
on lifting days I get up at 4am and eat an 800 calorie breakfast, then go back to bed by 0430 and snooze until it's time to get up and go to the gym for 0600 now THAT's dedication! There's no way I could do that. hat's off...
One of the reasons I like protein powder and high gi carbs is that the nutrients are absorbed very quickly. You can eat before you workout , but the food is still undigested in your stomach. Basically it's just going to come back up if you get too intense.

I've been trying something new before my 5:30 am workout, 1 plain waved potato! ( covered with i can't believe it's butter spray!)
Keeponpumpin!_red :)
I used to always have something before I workout in the early a.m., but I am cutting back to a big cup of black coffee. I am interested in seeing how I feel. Will start eating again if it seems to be affecting me adversely.
I am trying to lose 25lbs, so cutting PreWO meal to save 300-400 calories per day.
Thanks for the reply
I think I'll stay with protein shack and my cup of black coffee and eat a big meal after I workout.

I think I'll stay with protein shack and my cup of black coffee and eat a big meal after I workout. you asked and recieved pretty unanimous, experienced advice that it's counterproductive not to eat before working out and you're choosing to ignore that. that's your choice - just don't come back in two months complaining that you're not getting the results you want :)
i read in a book and read a comment ronnie coleman made to eat 2-3 hours before a w/o (i say 2 will do it). i was eating 1-1 1/2 hours before and was feeling sick and tired. turns out when you eat too soon before your w/o your body will not have the blood suppy to your muscles that it requires because of digestion. so yes eat before but not too soo before.
edit:also make sure it's easy digesting carbs (such as a fruit) and protien (whey shake)
