Question:
Practical uses of strength
I was fat from about age 7 to age 18 or so. When I was from about 4-7 I did swimming.
The thing is, for a little while now, I've been losing fat, building muscle, etc. for a lot of reasons -- the first and foremost to look better and feel better about myself. However, for a while, I've been really wanting to actually DO something with it.
I'll be 20 years old in November. Never really played sports all that much while I was a fatty. Anything I did play, I didn't enjoy because I'd always suck (being 224.5lbs 5'9 with no muscle kind of did that.) Going to Queen's University in the fall -- however it seems like to play on a team, I'd be constantly getting my ass kicked in any and all sports I could think of because everyone who competes at a university level seems to have competed for 4+ years in their sport already anyway.
Any recommendations? Thoughts? Similar experiences? I've thought about maybe taking up a combat sport (competitive MMA, boxing.) Maybe the school wrestling team. Rowing? I dunno...I don't even know the rules for most sports. I'm a quick study academically, so while I don't know the intricate rules/intimate strategic details of even pretty common sports (US football positions mean nothing to me) that's not a problem I would have.

I know that at many colleges, if youre not on the college level playing, there are groups and stuff that meet up to play. Like a group for basketball, football, etc. Just group of guys who have their own mini-league type thing. They shouldn't be as good as college level scholarship players, but they know basics of the game, and are just there to have fun and compete.
Uh wrestling in college with no experience? Aint going to happen. Id join an MMA gym and start some grappling.
At 165 pounds starting boxing are MMA would be tough. Its 3 pounds off light heavyweight

How about joining an intermural or club team at your university? They still give the good experience of being part of a team, but arent as competitive and hardcore as a varsity team sport.
Unless you're in a college with a pretty crappy team(a friend of mine is going to play soccor for college this year even though he's never played before, they're just a low class/division/whatever school), I don't think you can just walk on in and ask to be taught how to do everything. Wrestling, most likely not, you have to be pretty damn good to wrestle in college. And other sports as well too obviously. You're best bet in my opinion, would just be start taking up martial arts and stuff. Never too late to learn.
well, other then looking good, and haveing a lot easier of a time to get a girl, it makes u more confident
At 165 pounds starting boxing are MMA would be tough. Its 3 pounds off light heavyweight light heavyweight is 205 pounds bro he could drop 10 and be lightweight or gain 5 and be welterweight.
I would pay to watch someone who never wrestled before walk into a collegiate wrestling room and get his arms ripped out.
If your school has practice squads you could maybe join one for football or w/e, wouldn't be on the actual team but you still get to do the chore-like work.
Maybe try boxing/kickboxing/muay thai or some grappling.
Worst case scenario, part-time construction work.
u could be a male cheerleader
